“Activity is at the root of consciousness” -Dane Rudhyar, father of Humanistic Astrology The Astrology of Action is a new approach to this time-honored science that focuses on the much neglected 12 Houses of the Natal chart. My concept is as follows: the houses should no longer be seen simply as “areas of experience”, or convenient containers for astrological information. For in truth, the houses are not merely categories of a person’s life issues. The 12 houses should instead be seen as the vital opportunities to build our unique lives. A “category” implys a static state or structure, a defined area. This thinking leads to a very un-dynamic attitude. In actuality, each of the 12 houses are an opportunity for action, a chance to make things happen in this lifetime! In this way, they reflect many other possibilities, including the potential for personal transformation! These 12 “Realms of Freedom”, as I call them, are the windows of opportunity that allow you to take charge of your life! They lay out the creative space for individual manifestation, and reflect the potential of your core Self, anchored in the here and now, in THIS lifetime. With this view, everything else in astrology seems to reflect the domain or dominance of past life energy, aka, What the Hindus call “Karma”, the results of past action/desires. But the houses, on the other hand, refer to your current relation to SPACE AND TIME, your purpsoe or role in this lifetime. The very mysteries and possibilities of the quantum field also lie within this time/spacel orientation! Yes, finally a true interface for astrology and quantum physics: the houses! Yet in astrology, this 12-house structure has become so familiar or mundane, that most of our spiritual dramas are projected almost solely on the 12 Signs and Planets. Focusing so much on this level keeps one going “round and round” the wheel of past life illusion. In contrast, this lost, vital dimension of the houses (action, opportunity, creativity, individuation) is explored in my comming book. This missing dimension in life is linked to the quaility and timing of our actions! The famous line in Shakespear, “ The fault lies not in our stars... but in ourselves. That we are underlings.” is one of the most profound and mysterious lines ever concerning Astrology. It points out serious blindspots in Astrology, and is most fittings to our discussion. As Shakespear knew, we are here to ACT, and make changes, to effect the universe, in the same way that it effects us! We have a role to play in this Earthly drama. Life is not just “destiny written in the stars.” Free will is omnipresent, yet we still need direction and clarity on the best time, the where, when and how. In this new view, the classic, organic structure of the houses is seen to attenuate, to correct or adjust the effects our karmic past. This karmic past is now squarely assigned to the “heavier” Zodiac Signs and Planets, which come to be seen as the resisting, residual energy of the past, all that has coalesced over thousands of years. This energy “resides” in the house, effects our lives and keeping us locked in repetitions patterns, for better or worse. It was said at the Blast Astrology conference that “the planets in the natal chart are the agents of change”. I beg to disagree. WE are the agents of change! The houses are determined by the specific time of day you were born, and so reflect to the spacial orientation of this unique lifetime on earth. In other words, the house orientation illustrates your “mission” relative to Karma - your personal relationship with the Universe. And successful relationship is always followed by transformation. This mysterious hidden Self, source of the 12-house structure, relates to true individuality, and acts to transform or further refine your life and the Universe. Just as transformation begins with ourselves, with our own charts! Like the magic possibilities of the quantum field, ( “The Secret “ and “What the Bleep Do We Know?”), the houses of astrology are exactly these gateways to new horizons, and new life choices. By reclaiming the true meaning and purpose of the 12 Realms of life, the Astrology of Action is no less than a wake-up call to anyone interested in Astrology. In the book, you will find specific opportunities for each house, an inspiring and motivating list of actions and attitudes designed to energize your houses on a day-to-day, time-specific level, These opportunities are based on the life-building cycles of the Sun and Moon. Also, I plan to provide on this site a service: your “House Transit List”, so you can track the motions (exact hour and minute) of the Moon through your personal houses. Then you can begin exploring a new type of experiential astrology! Too many times, there is too much apprehension with astrology, and an overly mystical, fatalistic first impression of how it works.
